If you are a member of the France Passion scheme you can stay one night for free at France Passion Steenvoorde located in the grounds of the Auberge du Noord Meulen an upmarket restaurant in the vicinity of Steenvoorde, close to the border of Belgium. The site overlooks the fields of Flanders where you can see many poppies growing. The flat land means it is very exposed to the wind.
Overview of France Passion Steenvoorde
There is parking for five motorhomes although there was no one else there when we stayed in June 2017.
Parking is not in front of the restaurant but a barn next door, close to the road. There is occasional traffic noise.
The owner was pleasant but not that interested in talking to us. Perhaps because we could not speak French.
The restaurant is quite expensive (by our standards). To give you an idea a set menu was 18 or 21 Euros and 100ml glass of house wine 3.80. We could not afford to eat there.
Although the parking itself is just gravel the view immediately to the East and South is beautiful.
The spot is quite isolated and it is a fair walk to anywhere else but you could cycle to Cassel easily if you don’t mind hills.
The France Passion 2017 guide states there is rubbish disposal available but there was no bin obvious. Ask for le poubelle!
