Camping Le Romantic is a large campsite in Steenvoorde, Nord de France, close to the village of Ryveld. The campsite has a number of static homes but also spaces for campervans and motorhomes with electrical hookups and water points, as well as clean toilet and shower facilities.
Overview of Campsite in Steenvoorde – ‘Camping Le Romantic’
It’s not clear exactly how many spaces there are for campervans and motorhomes as when we visited in June 2017 there were a number of pitches that looked abandoned.
Officially the reception of the campsite in Steenvoorde is closed between 12 and 3pm but we received much help from the owner Georges so you should be OK arriving between these times.
Georges really goes the extra mile when it comes to customer service. He lent us an adaptor for the electrical hookup. Gave us a free beer and coke and maps of the area, drove us to the shops for some emergency supplies and even gave us toilet paper. (Toilet paper is not supplied in the toilets).
Georges speaks a little English and is keen to practice. He is also comfortable using Google Translate on his phone.
There is a small lake at the campsite and lots of ducks. Georges told us peak season was July and August. The site seemed very quiet in early June.
Like much of Flanders the area is very windy so there is some noise from the trees but it is not obtrusive.
The shower facilities are operated by jetjon (token). The 18 euro per night price includes two jetjons. One jetjon is 8 minutes of hot water.
The entry price also includes unlimited water and electricity.
The showers are clean and spacious. It is easily possible for two people to be in the shower at the same time.
Recycling bins are located near the exit.
The spot is a little isolated but you could cycle to the nearby village of Ryveld easily. More beautiful Cassel is a ten minute drive from the campsite in Steenvoorde.
